Olympique de Marseille coach cleared to reinstate Hojbjerg as captain

Olympique de Marseille coach Bruno Genesio has reportedly been given the authorization by club leadership to potentially reinstate Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg as team captain.

Previously, the club's management, led by Frank McCourt, had ordered the removal of Hojbjerg's captaincy following the Danish midfielder's refusal to join Newcastle. This administrative decision had caused tension, as Genesio had expressed disagreement with the move and Timothy Weah had been appointed as the new captain in the interim.

Stéphane Richard stated that while the direction has given Genesio the green light to return the armband to Hojbjerg, the final decision rests entirely with the coach. The previous decision to strip Hojbjerg of his role was linked to economic considerations and efforts to manage the club's wage bill.
