Olympique de Marseille coaching saga stalls as Habib Beye remains under contract

Olympique de Marseille has reached an agreement with former Lille manager Bruno Genesio on a two‑year contract with an optional third year. The appointment cannot be formalised because the club has not yet terminated the current coach, Habib Beye, whose contract runs until 2027.

Beye continues to act as if he will remain in charge, even sending the team’s training programme for the opening Ligue 1 match against Strasbourg on 22 August. The delay is linked to financial uncertainties, possible UEFA sanctions and an upcoming DNCG review, which the club hopes to clear before finalising the coaching change. New president Stéphane Richard and sporting director Gregory Lorenzi are also part of the restructuring.

The situation reflects administrative and financial constraints that prevent the club from officially confirming Genesio’s appointment and proceeding with its transfer plans.
