Olympique de Marseille faces financial and sporting crisis
Olympique de Marseille (OM) president Stéphane Richard has issued a warning regarding the club’s critical financial and sporting situation. Speaking at a CMA CGM event, Richard stated that the club is entering a period of austerity expected to last more than one season. He described the 2026-2027 campaign as a transition year aimed at laying the foundations for reconstruction, noting that the club faces a risk to its survival due to potential revenue losses of over 50%.
Richard also criticized previous management under Pablo Longoria, specifically citing a lack of investment in the club's training center in recent seasons. He urged supporters to remain engaged, particularly ahead of the upcoming Clasico against Paris Saint-Germain.
Adding to the criticism, Marseille-based rapper and lifelong supporter Soprano expressed frustration with the club's internal instability. During an appearance on RMC, Soprano remarked that non-sporting issues have overshadowed football, describing a chaotic environment where structural problems seem to persist despite the club's ambitions.
