Olympique de Marseille defeats Bayer Leverkusen in Europa League

Olympique de Marseille secured their first victory of the Europa League season with a 1-0 away win against Bayer Leverkusen at the BayArena. Amine Gouiri scored the decisive goal in the 77th minute, following a counter-attack where he struck a curling shot into the far corner.

The result ends Bayer Leverkusen’s perfect start to the competition, marking their first loss and the first goals conceded after three consecutive wins. Despite dominating possession and creating several opportunities, including a shot that hit the crossbar, Leverkusen struggled to find rhythm against a disciplined Marseille defense led by goalkeeper Jeffrey De Lange.

Marseille’s win provides a vital boost to their continental campaign after three consecutive losses in the group stage. For Leverkusen, the setback comes amid recent difficulties in the Bundesliga, adding pressure to their upcoming fixtures.
