Olympique de Marseille faces UEFA and DNCG financial sanctions

Olympique de Marseille is under intense financial pressure as it struggles to meet UEFA's Financial Fair Play rules and the French DNCG's salary‑cap restrictions. The club must reduce its wage bill and transfer liabilities before a June 30 2027 deadline, when it will be reassessed by both bodies.

Owner Frank McCourt has been criticised for his handling of the situation, and the board is exploring player sales, contract expiries and loan‑with‑option‑to‑buy deals to bring the squad’s costs within the allowed limits. Coach Bruno Genesio is tasked with keeping the team competitive while the transfer market remains largely inactive.

If the club fails to comply, it could face further sanctions, including possible exclusion from European competition or administrative relegation, though current projections suggest the club can stay within the required thresholds by leveraging upcoming transfer windows and potential cash injections.
