Olympique de Marseille leadership backs coach Bruno Genesio
Olympique de Marseille coach Bruno Genesio has met with club leadership to address the team's recent poor performance, including four consecutive Ligue 1 defeats that left the club in 17th place. During the international break, Genesio held discussions with sporting director Grégory Lorenzi and president Stéphane Richard to seek clarity on the club's long-term vision.
Lorenzi noted that Genesio was uncharacteristically vocal in the locker room following a 1-2 loss to Paris Saint-Germain, highlighting issues with defensive transitions and maintaining rhythm. Despite the tension, the club's management intends to maintain the current squad due to financial and roster constraints, focusing on correcting tactical flaws rather than a complete overhaul.
Genesio expressed that he felt “reassured” by the meeting, stating that he and the leadership are aligned on both short-term recovery and medium-term goals. He characterized the current period as a “difficult situation” rather than a crisis, aiming to de-escalate media pressure as the team prepares for its next match against Troyes.
