Olympique de Marseille midfielder Angel Gomes linked with Coventry City

Olympique de Marseille are prepared to let 25‑year‑old midfielder Angel Gomes leave the club as part of a summer wage‑bill reduction. The English international, who returned to Marseille after a loan spell at Wolverhampton Wanderers, has expressed a desire to re‑establish himself in the Premier League.

Newly promoted Coventry City, managed by former England captain Frank Lampard, have formally enquired about Gomes. Marseille have indicated they will not block a suitable offer, and the move would help the French club meet its target of cutting the payroll by roughly half.

Coach Bruno Genesio, who is also seeking other midfield reinforcements, has praised the Dutch midfielder Quinten Timber, suggesting that Gomes’ departure could free space for new signings.
