Olympique de Marseille negotiates transfer of defender Jean-Clair Todibo from West Ham

Olympique de Marseille has identified French defender Jean‑Claire Todibo as its priority target to reinforce a weakened centre‑back pairing. The 26‑year‑old, currently under contract with West Ham United, has expressed a strong desire to leave the English club after its relegation to the Championship. Marseille is prepared to meet West Ham’s demand for a permanent transfer, but the French side prefers a loan deal with an option to buy in order to limit immediate spending.

West Ham, needing fresh cash following its drop to the second tier, insists on a full fee and has resisted a loan‑only arrangement. Negotiations have begun, and while Todibo appears ready to join Marseille, the clubs must still agree on financial terms, including who will cover the player’s wages. The transfer is part of Marseille’s broader effort to offload players such as Traoré, Aubameyang and Greenwood, each expected to bring in at least €15 million, and to rebuild its defensive line.

If the deal materialises, it would mark a significant, albeit cautious, investment for the Ligue 1 club ahead of the summer market.
