Olympique Lyonnais denies AC Milan interest in Zachary Athekame
Olympique Lyonnais (OL) and head coach Paulo Fonseca have dismissed rumors regarding an early return of Zachary Athekame to AC Milan during the winter transfer window. Despite reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport suggesting the Italian club seeks to recall the 21-year-old Swiss defender to bolster their right flank, Fonseca characterized the speculation as “fake news.”
Athekame, who joined Lyon on loan from AC Milan without an option to buy, has become a key figure in Fonseca’s tactical setup. The defender has recorded two goals and three assists in nine appearances across all competitions this season.
Lyon’s sporting direction, including Matthieu Louis-Jean, intends to keep the player for the remainder of the season. While AC Milan has shown interest in recalling him due to squad absences and a demanding schedule, OL has refused to end the loan period prematurely.
