Olympique Lyonnais eyes €30m transfer of Malick Fofana to RB Leipzig

Olympique Lyonnais (OL) is preparing to sell Belgian winger Malick Fofana, whose market value has risen to about €30 million. German club RB Leipzig has shown strong interest and is expected to offer between €20 million and €30 million, while Italy's Atalanta Bergame is also on the club’s shortlist.

A sale would provide much‑needed financial relief for OL, which recently earned €30 million from the transfer of Afonso Moreira to Bayer Leverkusen. Fofana, recruited from La Gantoise for roughly €17 million in January 2024, has struggled with a serious ankle injury that limited him to 16 appearances and two goals last season. Coach Paulo Fonseca has begun reintegrating him into the squad, but the club must balance the need for cash against the desire to retain a potential key player.

If the deal proceeds, it could also be linked to a complex agent arrangement involving Roc Nation, which reportedly agreed to lower its commission on a separate OL‑Leipzig transfer to facilitate the Fofana move.
