Olympique Lyonnais invests 192 million euros in current squad

Olympique Lyonnais (OL) has invested 192 million euros in transfer fees to assemble its current squad, according to data from the CIES Football Observatory. This investment places the club fifth among French teams in terms of recruitment spending, surpassing Olympique de Marseille, which stands at 178 million euros.

On the pitch, striker Loïs Openda has become a central figure for the club under manager Paulo Fonseca. Despite facing criticism regarding his clinical finishing—noted by a low goal count relative to his 1.14 expected goals per match in Ligue 1—the club remains satisfied with his integration. Openda has demonstrated significant influence through his pressing, ability to create chances, and involvement in key match moments, including scoring in Champions League playoffs.

While PSG leads French spending significantly at 915 million euros, OL maintains a strong financial position in player trading, recording a net positive transfer balance of 122 million euros between 2022 and 2026.
