Olympique Lyonnais reports improved financial results

Olympique Lyonnais Groupe has reported a net loss of €87.3 million for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026, a significant improvement from the €201.2 million loss recorded in the previous year. The club’s board, chaired by Michele Kang, attributed this progress to a new strategy focused on reducing operational and personnel costs.

A major factor in the improved figures was a substantial reduction in the wage bill, which fell to €114 million from €178 million the previous year, marking the lowest level for the club since 2018.

Despite the improvement, the club faces ongoing financial challenges. The results were impacted by the write-down of approximately €205 million in receivables related to Botafogo and two companies linked to a former shareholder. While the club eliminated over €240 million in debt owed to John Textor’s Eagle Bidco, it remains heavily indebted with approximately €410 million in financial debt, including a €31 million loan from Michele Kang. Additionally, the club noted a decline in television rights revenue and stadium event income.

Legal complexities persist, as the board noted a new lawsuit filed by Mr. Textor against OL SASU in a New York court.
