Senegal's coach appointment stalled by political deadlock

Former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira, free since leaving Genoa in November 2025, is the federation’s favourite to take charge. He has reportedly given provisional approval to assume the role, but the appointment remains pending while internal political disputes within Senegal’s government and football federation block a final decision. Veteran coach Hervé Renard, who previously won the Africa Cup of Nations with two different nations, is still being considered, while former Olympique de Marseille manager Habib Beye, once seen as a possible candidate, has been overtaken by Vieira.
