Olympique Lyonnais seeded in Champions League third qualifying round

Olympique Lyonnais (OL) finished fourth in Ligue 1 and will enter the 2024‑25 UEFA Champions League at the third qualifying round. Because of its high UEFA coefficient, the French club receives a seeded status, which prevents it from being drawn against the strongest seeded opponents. However, the seed does not guarantee a home leg in the return match.

The draw, scheduled for 20 July, will decide OL’s opponent and whether the first leg will be played at the Groupama Stadium. Potential opponents cited by the club include Sparta Prague (Czech Republic), Union Saint‑Gilloise (Belgium), NEC Nijmegen (Netherlands), Sturm Graz (Austria), Górnik Zabrze (Poland) and Heart of Midlothian (Scotland). If OL progresses, it will face another two‑leg tie in the playoff round in August before a possible group‑stage place.
