Om Birla urges BRICS nations to adopt ethical technology
At the 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in New Delhi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla called on member nations to champion ethical, transparent, and human-centric technology. He emphasized that BRICS nations, which represent nearly half of the global population, have a collective responsibility to ensure technology includes paramount human oversight while safeguarding parliamentary sovereignty.
Birla also addressed the role of parliaments in easing global tensions through dialogue and diplomacy. He noted that elected representatives must act as bridges of understanding to address challenges such as regional conflicts, economic instability, and climate change. Additionally, he stressed the importance of addressing youth aspirations by providing meaningful opportunities and an enabling environment for growth.
Highlighting India's digital advancements, Birla discussed the use of the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA) for paperless governance and multilingual initiatives that provide legislative business in multiple languages. The forum included representatives from member nations including Russia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates.
