Omagari Fireworks Competition held in Daisen, Akita

The 98th National Fireworks Competition, known as the Omagari Fireworks, took place in Daisen, Akita, on August 29–30, 2026. The event drew significant crowds to the region, with an estimated 600,000 visitors expected in a city of 70,000 people.

Due to changes in event management, free viewing areas have been reduced, and the competition now utilizes paid seating areas, which accommodate approximately 100,000 spectators. Local festivities included the Maruko River Night Market, featuring local craft beers and food stalls.
