Omah Lay discusses struggle to quit smoking

Nigerian Afrobeats singer Omah Lay, born Stanley Didia, has spoken candidly about his ongoing struggle to quit smoking. In recent discussions, including a podcast interview with DJ Dan, the ‘Soso’ singer revealed that despite multiple attempts to stop, he has decided to stop forcing himself to quit and has instead accepted the habit as part of his life.

Omah Lay expressed a fatalistic view regarding his health, stating that because life is temporary and everyone will eventually die, he no longer sees the essence in the pressure of quitting. He noted that the illegality of marijuana in Nigeria contributes to a sense of rebellion and ‘artificial happiness.’

The singer previously clarified that his habit involves marijuana rather than cigarettes. He also reflected on his creative process, noting that while he used drugs during the production of his album ‘Clarity of Mind,’ he finds that creating music while sober allows him to better appreciate and focus on his art.
