Oman advances sustainability through new building codes and green campaigns

Oman is advancing its sustainability goals through new regulatory frameworks and regional innovation campaigns. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning has introduced the Oman Energy Efficiency and Sustainability Code 2025. This initiative includes a two-year voluntary trial period for new building design and energy performance standards, with full enforcement scheduled for 2030. A key priority involves retrofitting existing government buildings to potentially achieve energy savings of up to 26 percent.

In the Dhofar region, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, in collaboration with the Office of the Governor of Dhofar and several other government bodies, has launched the ‘Sustainable Dhofar’ campaign. The initiative aims to foster a culture of green innovation and mobility. Through the ‘Amed’ platform, citizens and entrepreneurs can submit proposals for logistical and digital sustainability projects, which may be supported to become viable investments.
