Oman and Qatar urge de‑escalation and Hormuz security amid US‑Iran peace talks

Oman’s Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi and Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani held a telephone conversation stressing the need for diplomatic de‑escalation, continued mediation, and the protection of freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. They highlighted the importance of keeping global supply‑chain routes open and called for broader regional and international cooperation to maintain peace and stability.

Separately, Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani met with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Falih Al‑Zaidi, urging all parties to implement the United States‑Iran peace memorandum of understanding signed in June. The leaders reiterated the need for unhindered navigation in the Hormuz Strait and referenced Iranian claims that the United States had violated the agreement, underscoring the fragility of the regional security environment.
