Oman and the US implement new cybersecurity frameworks

Oman has launched a national cybersecurity strategy for 2026–2030, developed by the Cyber Defence Centre in collaboration with government and private sector entities. The framework focuses on five pillars: cybersecurity governance, cyber resilience, capacity building and awareness, cyber cooperation, and the cyber economy. The initiative aims to protect critical infrastructure, support the digital economy, and align with Oman Vision 2040 by strengthening domestic partnerships and international cooperation to address cross-border threats.

In the United States, a new White House memorandum regarding transnational cyber-enabled crime introduces new rules of engagement. The policy allows vetted U.S. companies to conduct specific cyber-surveillance against foreign criminal organizations, provided they obtain written government approval. This approach leverages the private sector's control over digital infrastructure and AI technologies to combat autonomous cyber threats that operate at machine speed, while maintaining public authority and accountability.
