Oman electricity production rises 4.3% as water output falls

Oman’s electricity production increased by 4.3% year-on-year during the first eight months of 2026, reaching a total output of 37,481.8 gigawatt-hours. Preliminary data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) indicates that net electricity production, which includes purchases by the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company and the Rural Areas Electricity Company, rose by 4.6% to 36,463.9 GWh.

Regional growth varied significantly. Muscat recorded the highest surge, with electricity production increasing by over 204%. Other areas showing growth included Al Dakhiliyah (44.1%), Al Wusta (8.4%), and Dhofar (4.6%). Conversely, combined electricity production in North and South Al Sharqiyah fell by 16.4%, while Musandam’s output remained largely unchanged.

In contrast to the rise in power, Oman’s total water production declined by 3.5% during the same eight-month period. Total water output reached 330,649.3 thousand cubic metres, down from 342,709.7 thousand cubic metres in the previous year. Water production in Muscat specifically saw a decrease of 6.2%.
