Oman expands international partnerships in defense and investment

Oman has entered into new bilateral agreements with the United Kingdom and the Maldives to strengthen economic and strategic ties.

Following a state visit by Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to the United Kingdom, the two nations agreed to deepen cooperation in defense, advanced technology, and green industries. This partnership aims to support Oman Vision 2040 and British economic growth. As part of this agreement, the United Kingdom increased its financing capacity through UK Export Finance for exports to Oman by £1.6 billion, bringing the total to £7 billion. The leaders also reaffirmed commitments to maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz and a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Separately, the Maldives and Oman held their first political consultations in Muscat. The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in fisheries, sustainable tourism, renewable energy, and the blue economy. Maldivian Foreign Secretary Fathimath Inaya also met with Oman Food Capital and Invest Oman to discuss food security and potential investments in the fisheries sector to bolster economic resilience.
