Oman expands strategic trade links with Sri Lanka and India
Oman is actively expanding its economic influence by positioning itself as a strategic gateway for South Asian and Indian businesses. A high-level Omani delegation recently visited Port City Colombo to discuss the proposed Oman–South Asia Investment and Trade Corridor. This initiative aims to link Oman, Sri Lanka, and the broader South Asian market by utilizing their respective special economic zones as platforms for regional market access.
Simultaneously, Oman is strengthening its ties with India through the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which entered into force in June 2026. The agreement provides duty-free access to over 99 percent of India's exports to Oman by value. Omani officials have noted that the country is well-positioned to help Indian companies expand into the Gulf, East Africa, and other international markets through enhanced trade, manufacturing, and logistics cooperation.
