Oman mandates ESG reporting and promotes LEED certification for businesses

The Muscat Stock Exchange will require all listed companies in Oman to disclose Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) information starting March 2025, moving from a voluntary phase that ran from 2023 to 2024. The Omani Financial Services Authority has outlined a phased rollout of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) sustainability disclosures – IFRS S1 for general sustainability risks and IFRS S2 for climate‑related risks – with full mandatory compliance expected by 2029. Companies are being urged to engage sustainability consultants to navigate the new regulatory landscape and align with Oman Vision 2040.

In parallel, the construction sector is adopting the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification as the benchmark for green buildings. LEED‑certified projects are promoted as a way to cut energy and water use, lower operating costs, increase property values and demonstrate corporate responsibility, supporting the Sultanate’s broader goals for renewable energy, sustainable cities and environmental stewardship.
