Omar Abdullah confirms Jammu and Kashmir cabinet reshuffle after August 15
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has confirmed that a reshuffle and expansion of his Council of Ministers is underway, though he ruled out any changes before August 15.
Abdullah stated that the process is a “work in progress” but noted that an immediate expansion would be inappropriate as current ministers are already preparing speeches for Independence Day. The current council consists of six ministers, and under law, the strength cannot exceed nine.
Speculation regarding the reshuffle follows internal discussions within the National Conference party concerning government performance and ministerial accessibility. Reports suggest the expansion may include two to three new members from the Kashmir Valley, alongside potential portfolio reassignments.
