Omar Abdullah inaugurates garden and lays abattoir foundation in Srinagar

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has inaugurated two major infrastructure and environmental projects in Srinagar.

In Srinagar’s Polo View, the Chief Minister opened the city’s first ‘waste to wonder’ flower garden. Developed by the Floriculture Department, the garden utilizes discarded and scrapped materials—such as a vintage Ambassador car, a classic Kashmiri tonga, and old tyres—to create creative garden installations. The inauguration coincided with a Floriculture Mela, providing a platform for local growers and entrepreneurs to showcase floral products and exchange business practices.

Additionally, Chief Minister Abdullah laid the foundation stone for a ₹25.87 crore mechanized sheep and goat abattoir at Allochi Bagh. Designed to meet contemporary hygiene and food safety standards, the facility will have a daily processing capacity of approximately 5,000 animals. The project includes modern systems for carcass handling, chilling, and cold storage, alongside environmental safeguards such as a bio-digestion system and an Effluent Treatment Plant to manage organic waste and wastewater.
