Omar Abdullah issues appointment orders to new medical officers

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah handed over appointment orders to newly recruited Medical Officers of the Health and Medical Education Department during a ceremony at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre in Srinagar.

Addressing the new appointees, Abdullah emphasized the responsibility of serving the public, particularly in remote and underserved areas. He urged doctors to ensure quality healthcare is accessible closer to residents' homes to reduce the need for unnecessary referrals to major hospitals in Srinagar and Jammu. He noted that routine procedures, such as normal deliveries and surgeries for appendicitis or gallbladder issues, should ideally be available at district or sub-district levels.

The Chief Minister stated that his government is prioritizing education and health as the foundations for the future development of the region. He also acknowledged the challenges faced by doctors in remote postings and assured them that the government would work to improve infrastructure, connectivity, and working conditions to support their duties.
