Omar Abdullah questions Congress stance on Vande Mataram protocols

Political tensions have escalated in Jammu and Kashmir regarding the singing of the national song, ‘Vande Mataram’. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has questioned the stance of the Congress party, asking whether the party intends for Kashmiris to face imprisonment due to the legal implications of not standing during the song.

Abdullah emphasized that the government must adhere to existing legal provisions and regulations concerning the six stanzas of ‘Vande Mataram’. He noted that if specific conduct is required by law during the performance of the song, the administration is responsible for ensuring compliance, but warned that such enforcement could impact common citizens.

In response to the debate, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) spokesperson Sriraj Nair supported the stance taken by Omar and Farooq Abdullah. Nair criticized the Congress party, alleging that its historical politics involved the appeasement of specific groups and the marginalization of Hindus. He argued that the full version of ‘Vande Mataram’ should be sung across the country, citing its importance during the independence movement.
