Omar Abdullah to reshuffle J&K Cabinet and invite GCC investment
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is expected to undertake a major Cabinet reshuffle next week. The proposed expansion aims to bring the Council of Ministers to its maximum permissible strength of nine members, including the Chief Minister. Political sources indicate that five senior National Conference leaders—Abdul Rahim Rather, Ali Mohammad Sagar, Nazir Ahmad Gurezi, Altaf Ahmad Kaloo, and Aijaz Jan—are likely to be inducted, while two incumbent ministers may be dropped.
Separately, Chief Minister Abdullah has invited industry leaders to establish Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in the region. Speaking at the J&K GCC Summit 2026, he emphasized the government's commitment to creating a business-friendly ecosystem to attract investment and generate employment for local youth. He noted that recent Ease of Doing Business legislation has already been passed to facilitate commercial operations in the territory.
