Omar al-Bashir transferred to Khartoum military hospital for medical treatment

Ousted Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir has been transferred to the Alia Specialist Hospital in Khartoum, a military-run facility, following a period of medical care in Merowe. His legal team, led by Mohamed Alhassan Alameen, reports that the 82-year-old former leader requires specialized medical diagnosis and treatment that is currently unavailable within Sudan.

While Alameen stated that military authorities have provided preliminary approval for Bashir to travel abroad for medical care, his family has contradicted this, asserting they have received no official notification or authorization for such travel. The family has appealed directly to army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan to allow the transfer and release of the former president on medical grounds.

Bashir has been in detention or military supervision since his removal from power in April 2019. His potential transfer abroad remains a sensitive issue, as he is wanted by the International Criminal Court for alleged genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity in Darfur.
