Omar De Libero dies during hiking excursion in the Reggio Emilia Apennines

Omar De Libero, a 49-year-old man from Ravenna, died following a sudden medical emergency during a hiking excursion in the Reggio Emilia Apennines. De Libero had traveled to the area by motorcycle and proceeded on foot toward the Pietra di Bismantova area.

After reaching the summit, he sent a selfie to his family with the message ‘Sono in cima’ (I am at the top). When he failed to return home by the evening as planned, his son used GPS data from his phone to alert authorities. Search teams, including the Carabinieri and Alpine Rescue, located his body the following morning near the Eremo di Bismantova.

Preliminary findings suggest he suffered a sudden, fatal illness that prevented him from seeking assistance. An autopsy was not ordered, and his remains have been returned to his family.
