Omar Fernández allocates Gadiel Fund resources to support ALS patients
Senator Omar Fernández has allocated 1,059,000 pesos from the Gadiel Fund to support individuals living with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) in the Dominican Republic. The resources will be channeled through the Fundación Proyecto ELA RD to provide assistance, guidance, and accompaniment to patients and their families.
Leo Marrero, founder and president of Fundación Proyecto ELA RD, noted that there is limited public awareness regarding this neurodegenerative disease in the country, which may lead to undiagnosed cases. The funding aims to increase visibility for the condition and alleviate the economic burden placed on households due to the progressive loss of motor functions.
In separate local developments, the Ministry of Sports inaugurated a multi-use covered facility at the Óscar Santana Sports and Cultural Club in the Espaillat district, an investment of approximately RD$26.8 million. Additionally, the XLV Tony Barreiro University Sports Games torch arrived at the UASD Barahona campus, and the fourth edition of the Humano Seguros Intercollegiate Football Cup commenced at the Barça Academy Santo Domingo with 20 participating schools.
