Omar Fernández identified as key figure for 2028 political transition
Senator Omar Fernández, representing the Fuerza del Pueblo in the Dominican Republic, has proposed a legislative agenda focused on promoting investment and reducing unproductive government spending. Fernández advocated for less bureaucracy to boost private sector productivity and expressed concern over the high number of public employees, estimated at approximately 800,000. He also called for a cautious approach to National Police reform and criticized the management of the electrical sector and school enrollment issues.
Separately, businessman and former president of the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs (ANJE), Guillermo Julián Jiménez, identified Fernández as a key figure for political generational change. Following a year and a half of consultations with various social and productive sectors, Jiménez stated that Fernández is the ideal candidate to lead a political transition toward the 2028 elections, representing an alternative for citizens disillusioned with traditional politics.
