Omar García Harfuch, Mexico’s Secretary of Security and Protection of Citizens, met with leaders from the National Electoral Institute (INE), the Attorney General's Office (FGR), and the National Intelligence Center (CNI) to address electoral security risks. The goal of the meeting was to analyze past vulnerabilities to prevent future issues during upcoming elections.
García Harfuch stated that the security cabinet, including the Secretariat of National Defense, the Secretariat of the Navy, and the National Guard, will play a fundamental role in the electoral process. Coordination will also extend to state-level police forces and prosecutors.
Addressing the recruitment of youth by organized crime, García Harfuch noted that the National Intelligence Center is monitoring digital platforms where recruitment often occurs. He mentioned that authorities have previously apprehended key recruiters operating in regions such as Jalisco and Nayarit.
