Omar Sy explains shift from PSG to Olympique de Marseille support

French actor Omar Sy has shared the reasons behind his decision to support Olympique de Marseille (OM) over Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). During an interview on France Inter, the ‘Lupin’ star explained that while he supported PSG during his childhood in the Yvelines region, his allegiance shifted during the 1990s.

Sy cited the intimidating atmosphere at the Parc des Princes as a primary factor. He recalled the presence of the Boulogne Boys, an ultra group he described as ‘fachos,’ noting that attending matches required traveling in large groups of ten to fifteen people due to fears of aggression and the violent climate surrounding the Parisian supporters.

His transition to OM occurred during a visit to Marseille under the presidency of Bernard Tapie. Sy described a stark contrast in atmosphere at the Stade Vélodrome, characterizing the experience as festive, warm, and ‘bon enfant.’ He noted that the ability to enjoy football in a relaxed environment led him to permanently adopt the colors of the Marseille club.
