Omar Vargas finishes as runner-up at J30 Punta Cana
Bolivian tennis player Omar Vargas secured the runner-up position in the Under-18 singles at the J30 Punta Cana, part of the ITF World Tennis Tour Juniors. Vargas had a strong performance, advancing through the group stage undefeated with victories over Nikita Budyonny of the United States, Emmanuel Felix of the Dominican Republic, and Dominik Lohmann of Mexico.
Vargas continued his momentum into the knockout rounds, defeating the fourth seed, Guilherme Keleti of Brazil, in the quarterfinals and overcoming Argentina’s Francisco Correa in the semifinals. In the final, he faced the third seed, Italy’s Joao Nardi, who won the championship with a 6-3, 6-1 scoreline.
This achievement marks the second consecutive week of success for Bolivian players in the tournament, following Franco Arancibia’s runner-up finish in the previous edition. The tournament utilized a new group stage format this year to increase the number of matches played by competitors.
