Omarchy and Hermes Agent misrepresented in viral software promotion

A viral video promoting a “FREE Hermes OS” has drawn criticism for misrepresenting technical realities to a large audience. The software being promoted is actually a combination of two distinct projects: Omarchy, a Linux distribution created by David Heinemeier Hansson (DHH), and Hermes Agent, an AI agent developed by Nous Research.

Technical experts note that the promotional content omitted several critical warnings found in the official documentation. Most notably, the installation process for Omarchy wipes the selected drive by default and utilizes full-disk encryption.

Additionally, there are significant compatibility issues with modern Apple hardware. While the video suggested the software could run on Mac computers, the Omarchy manual specifies that M-series Macs are not directly supported. The current installer is x86-64 only, meaning it cannot boot in ARM64 virtual machines, and community reports indicate that emulating the architecture is too slow for practical use. Running the software on Apple silicon requires a complex community-driven workaround involving building from source.
