Cibinong Prison officials suspended over luxury housing scandal
The Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Affairs is conducting an intensive investigation into the Cibinong Class IIA Prison in West Java following a surprise inspection by the Ombudsman RI. The Ombudsman discovered what has been described as a “luxury cluster” consisting of more than 10 buildings with apartment-standard facilities, including living rooms, kitchens, air conditioning, televisions, and refrigerators. Some areas reportedly featured amenities such as a gym and a golf simulator.
In response to these findings, the Ministry has suspended five structural officials, including the Head of the Prison, Wisnu Hani Putranto, to facilitate the internal probe. Minister Agus Andrianto has personally visited the site to determine if official staff housing is being illegally repurposed for elite inmates.
Internal investigators have noted discrepancies between the conditions documented by the Ombudsman and current observations at the site, including the disappearance of certain luxury items and a photograph of an individual previously linked to a corruption case. The investigation is expected to be completed within one week.
