Ombudsman intervention secures HELB upkeep funds for Pwani University student
A student at Pwani University has received Ksh55,200 in upkeep funds from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) following an intervention by the Commission on Administrative Justice.
The student had originally applied for funding to cover both tuition and upkeep but was initially only awarded tuition fees. HELB explained that the student's initial application incorrectly identified her as a self-sponsored student rather than a government-sponsored one.
After the Commission on Administrative Justice intervened, the student was advised to update her details on the Higher Education Financing Student Portal. Once her status was corrected to reflect that she was government-sponsored, HELB disbursed the additional upkeep allocation.
