Omer Đurđević, Montenegrin music scholar and professor, passes away

Omer Đurđević, a prominent accordion professor and guardian of Montenegrin traditional music, has passed away in Sarajevo.

Đurđević spent over four decades as a professor at the ‘Vasa Pavić’ Music School in Podgorica, where he taught numerous generations of students. His work was instrumental in researching and documenting Montenegrin folk songs, preserving hundreds of traditional melodies, including the complete musical opus of Ksenija Cicvarić.

In addition to his pedagogical role, he led the Radio Televizija Crne Gore National Orchestra and contributed significantly to the development of the public service's musical programming. He was the first Montenegrin trained accordionist to further his studies in the United States under Professor Stanley Darow. He is scheduled to be buried on August 19 at the Cijevna cemetery.
