Omiš bypass project modified following public protests

The association ‘Volim Omiš’ has announced that the planned bypass project in Omiš will be modified following sustained public pressure and appeals to the European Commission. Previously, the director of Hrvatske ceste, Ivica Budimir, had maintained that the route would not change despite protests from local initiatives and municipal committees.

The revised project now includes a roundabout in Zakučac, a solution that local activists had previously insisted upon to address functionality issues. While the association welcomes this change to the traffic solution, they stated that the modification does not resolve underlying safety, ecological, or visual identity concerns. The group continues to advocate for a main tunnel to prevent environmental devastation and protect the area's natural landscape.
