Omiš wildfire recovery: Aid initiatives and damage documentation

Following the devastating wildfires near Omiš and Lokva Rogoznica on August 13, recovery efforts and aid initiatives are underway. The City of Omiš has advised residents to begin documenting property damage immediately, as a formal declaration of a natural disaster is expected in early September. Once declared, citizens will have a strict eight-day window to report damages.

Charitable and economic support is being organized through various channels. Caritas of the Split-Makarska Archdiocese has launched a fundraising campaign to assist families who lost their homes and basic living conditions. Additionally, the Croatian Chamber of Crafts (HOK) has petitioned the government to extend tax relief to small business owners and artisans whose premises or equipment were destroyed.

On the infrastructure side, the company Čistoća Karlovac announced it may begin accepting mixed municipal waste from Omiš at the Ilovac landfill starting in September to assist with local waste management needs following the fire. Meanwhile, local political discussions continue regarding waste management challenges in the Split-Dalmatia region.
