Omiš wildfire investigation continues as forensic experts analyze evidence

Authorities in Croatia are continuing their investigation into the catastrophic wildfire that occurred near Omiš, specifically in the Lokva Rogoznica area, more than 20 days after the event. Forensic experts and police are working to determine whether the blaze was caused by intentional arson, negligence, or an accident.

Investigators have conducted over one hundred interviews with local residents and tourists. They are also reviewing numerous surveillance camera recordings from nearby homes, businesses, and villas to pinpoint exactly how and where the fire started. Forensic teams have collected soil samples and various objects found at the scene for detailed analysis.

The scale of the fire has been described as unprecedented for the Split region. While investigators are examining all possibilities, including the impact of extreme heat and drought, expert Slobodan Kocijan has ruled out the possibility of discarded glass acting as a magnifying lens. A final expert opinion and official findings are expected within the next ten days.
