OMIC advises reviewing energy contracts to contain costs
The Municipal Consumer Information Office (OMIC) has advised residents in Daimiel to review their gas and electricity contracts to mitigate rising energy expenses as heating season approaches.
Technical lead Gema Valiente noted that the Last Resort Tariff (TUR) in the regulated market currently offers significant savings, potentially reducing gas bills by up to 50% compared to the free market. However, she warned that a revision of this regulated tariff is expected to be published in the Official State Gazette (BOE) on October 1, with potential increases of 60% to 70%.
Regarding electricity, Valiente emphasized that there is no single ideal tariff for all users. She recommended analyzing accumulated annual consumption rather than single monthly bills, particularly for homes using electricity as a primary heating source. She also suggested adapting time-of-use periods to seasonal needs, such as switching to three-period tariffs as temperatures drop.
