Ominimo becomes Serbia's first unicorn with $1.6 b valuation

Serbian insurtech startup Ominimo closed a Series B funding round with participation from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), lifting its market value to $1.6 billion. The valuation makes Ominimo the first Serbian company to surpass the $1 billion unicorn threshold and the most valuable insurer in the former Yugoslav region.

Founded in 2024 by Dušan Komar, Laslo Horvat and Denis Weinbender, Ominimo uses artificial intelligence, advanced mathematical models and data analytics to price policies and assess risk. Within two years it has attracted nearly one‑million users and generated annual premium revenue of over $350 million. The firm now operates in four EU markets and plans to enter six additional EU states and the United States within the next year.

The company employs more than 100 people, around two‑thirds of whom are data scientists or software engineers, largely based in Novi Sad and Belgrade. EBRD representative Bruno Lushic praised Ominimo as “one of the most impressive insurtech companies evaluated so far.” Hungarian media also highlighted the deal, noting that the startup’s co‑founders give it a claim to being Hungary’s first unicorn.
