Omkam Aviations to assemble Russian IL-114-300 aircraft in India

Omkam Aviations Pvt Ltd, a Delhi-based company, has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) to introduce 50 IL-114-300 regional aircraft to India. The proposal includes plans for local assembly in India and a full transfer of technology (ToT) to enable 100 per cent domestic manufacturing and potential future exports. The initial investment for the first six aircraft and support systems is estimated at approximately Rs 1,500 crore, with Sberbank of Russia reportedly committed to providing necessary funding.

The IL-114-300 is a twin-engine turboprop designed for regional routes and smaller airports. While UAC is working to convert preliminary agreements with Indian firms into definitive orders, some reports note that current arrangements, such as those involving Pinnacle Air and Sleek Aviation, remain at the level of non-binding letters of intent rather than formal contracts. Additionally, the aircraft's operational temperature range has been noted as a factor for deployment in various climates.
