Omkareshwar and Mahakaleshwar Temples Update Pilgrimage Routes and Rituals in Madhya Pradesh

The district administration at Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga in Madhya Pradesh has introduced a one‑way (single‑lane) traffic system for the Sawan month to manage the large influx of devotees. Specific bus routes and designated entry points have been announced, and ticket‑counter kiosks with wrist‑band services have been set up at key parking areas to streamline pilgrim movement.

In Ujjain, the world‑renowned Mahakaleshwar Temple conducted its daily Bhasma Aarti on 2 August 2026. The ceremony featured traditional Vedic chants, a silver door opening, elaborate deity adornment, and a Panchamrit offering. The temple’s free‑meal program, which serves around 9,000 devotees daily, will now include South Indian dishes—idli and sambar on Tuesdays, and pulihora and payasam on Fridays—expanding the culinary options for pilgrims.
