Pleasants Power Station in West Virginia Enters Chapter 11 Bankruptcy
Omnis Pleasants LLC, the owner of the 1,278‑megawatt Pleasants Power Station in Belmont, West Virginia, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. The filing is intended to restructure the company's capital structure, resolve litigation and governance disputes, and facilitate a potential sale of the coal‑fired plant, which supplies electricity to the regional grid and employs about 140 workers.
The company reported assets of $50‑$100 million and liabilities of a similar amount, with 200‑999 creditors. The State of West Virginia is the largest unsecured creditor, owed more than $50.8 million. CEO David Hindman said the goal is to achieve a full recovery for the state while honoring obligations to PJM, vendors and employees. Management will remain in place during the process, and operations are expected to continue as normal while the bankruptcy court reviews motions to maintain cash flow, wage payments and energy trading activities.
