Omoyele Sowore accuses Nigerian government of secret subsidies

Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has accused the Nigerian Federal Government of secretly continuing to pay subsidies despite public claims of their removal. Speaking on Arise Television, Sowore alleged that these subsidies are not limited to petrol but also extend to the naira, which he claims is being quietly maintained at a specific exchange rate against the US dollar.

Sowore criticized the government for what he described as a lack of transparency, arguing that the administration is merely renaming existing subsidies. He further contended that the current system disproportionately benefits the wealthy through customs concessions and waivers, while ordinary citizens face increased poverty and a declining currency value following the official removal of petrol subsidies.
