Omoyele Sowore criticizes Ibrahim Babangida on 85th birthday
Omoyele Sowore, the 2027 presidential candidate for the African Action Congress (AAC), has criticized former Nigerian military Head of State Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida as the retired general celebrates his 85th birthday.
Sowore accused Babangida of leaving a damaging legacy characterized by decisions that allegedly deepened corruption, undermined democratic governance, and contributed to Nigeria’s current national challenges. Describing Babangida as the man who ‘did Nigeria dirty,’ Sowore argued that the former ruler’s tenure from 1985 to 1993 was marked by selfishness and wickedness in the exercise of power rather than nation-building.
Sowore urged that history should focus on the long-term consequences of Babangida’s policies and choices rather than the birthday celebrations organized by his associates.
